As their first issue was due out on May the Fourth, the unofficial Star Wars appreciation day they contacted me having seen my previous work on my Darth Vader’s day off project featuring my good friend Ryan Garratt posing as Darth.  They asked if they could do a feature on myself and my work as well as asked if i would like to have the cover shot for their first issue.

On my most recent photoshoot, The Dark Carnival, I had the pleasure of film maker Dominic Holmes from Loose Screw Productions come along to film the proceedings.

He kindly put together this behind the scenes documentary with interviews with myself and my team on the day.

Last year i was contacted by a local artist Victoria Morton asking if she could use some of my photographs as a basis for some of her oil paintings. Of course i was delighted and flattered to be asked so i sent 2 images for her to work with.

One image was an almost direct reproduction of the wonderful Model Jasmine Cooper from a fantasy inspired shoot, with the second one Victoria took a more creative approach.

Both pieces are simply spectacular and i am sure you can appreciate Victoria’s artistic talent!

Tell me a bit about yourself. Who you are, where you are from etc?

My name is Jodie Hannon, im 25 and from Walsall. I have a 5 year old daughter and two step children.

How long have you been modelling for?

I did my first shoot when I was 20, so occasionally for 5 years.

How and why did you first get into modelling?

A friends dad owns a photography shop, and wanted models so my friend aproached me and I thought I would give it a go!

What is the most difficult aspect of your work?

I have a few self confidence issues as I’m not a size 10!

What has been your proudest achievement as a model?

Gaining a bit more confidence within my self.

Who or what inspires you?

My family and friends. I come froma family of not petite women,yet they are all happy with who they are. Also, Sophie Dahl,being the first plus size model, showing its not always about having definded bones,but more curves.

When on a photo shoot do you prefer to be directed by the photography, by yourself or a mixture of both?

A bit of both. I enjoy going with the flow but it is also good to see what other poses the photographer thinks would suit my figure.

Favourite colour?

Purple.

Favourite music or band?

I like anything really, from rock to pop, classical to dance. Anything I think sounds good at the time.

Any advice for any aspiring models reading this?

Just be yourself, be honest about what you want to gain from this kind of career and most importantly, have fun!

Anything else you want to talk about?

Not that I can think of haha!

Finally, if you could describe working with Darkslide Photography with only 3 words, what would they be?

Fun, spontanious and entertaining!

I dont really have a portfolio, as I stated previously, I only model onccasionally, but I would love to do it more if I had the time!

Tell me a bit about yourself. Who you are, where you are from etc?

I’m Luthien.  I’m a 21 year old model from the West Midlands.  I guess you’d call me an alternative model, though I don’t fit into any of the main “alt” boxes.

How long have you been modelling for?

As a hobby I have been doing it for about 5 years. I did some shoots before then for friends.

How and why did you first get into modelling?

I’m a corset maker and I also have a huge amount of beautiful  vintage, antique and elaborate clothes. Going out to gigs etc I dressed a bit more casually so I wanted a way to showcase my work as it was just sat in a drawer otherwise.

What is the most difficult aspect of your work?

I hate the way things work nowadays. Everyone seems to have facebook pages and all you see on some of the most wonderful designers and photographers pages is the same copied and pasted spiel from the same few models. I have a life outside of modelling and I don’t have time to sit and do that. I also find it annoying when people contact me that way as a designer so I don’t ever do it to other people. It means I can’t really compete with some of the other models who are around at the moment, though. People haven’t really heard of me.

What has been your proudest achievement as a model?

A collaboration between artists resulting in wonderful work is far more rewarding to me than a small some of money and a shoot I didn’t enjoy. Every shoot I have ever done has been a proud achievement as I do approach it as art and I am always proud of the results because of that. Being published for the first time was pretty awesome though.

Who or what inspires you?

Vampira, Irving Klaw, vintage lingerie, Victorian fashion, vintage fetish photography, my cats.

When on a photo shoot do you prefer to be directed by the photography, by yourself or a mixture of both?

I work differently with different photographers. Communication before the shoot is key so you can build up a rapport and get an idea of what you both want from the shoot and how you both work.

Favourite colour?

Grey

Favourite music or band?

I love Black Metal  – Lifelover, 1349, Taake… I also love Katzenjammer.

Any advice for any aspiring models reading this?

Do it because you love it, not because you think you’ll make a living from it.

Boobs? They’re always good to talk about haha

Firstly the Faun shoot i did with Baneology set on Brighton beach in April featuring Mark Whistler as the model and secondly an image of a Faery shoot i did with model Jasmine Cooper in the spring.

My only criticizm of the publication is that i didn’t have the opportunity to proof the layouts first as unfortunately the images were stretched from their original formatting. Apart from that it was a nice feature and i appreciate they wanted to feature my work.

I recently had several images featured in the American Alternative Fashion magazine The Cat’s Meow.

These were submitted as part of their Halloween Special featuring model Miss Betty Coco from a shoot i did earlier in the year with Baneology Makeup artist who i often collaborate with on projects as well as Twisted Trinkets Jewellery.
